A scathingly satirical how-to guide for getting your black-directed film produced in a white-dominated industry.
An entirely sincere, comprehensive and essential step by step guide to creating a film: the Black London edition presented by Geraldine Thomas screens as part of Inglan My Inglan: United Kingdom Shorts on Saturday, February 8 at 6:00pm.
Cecile Emeke is a director, writer and artist currently based in London. Emeke began working with moving image in the online space, independently producing and directing ‘Strolling’, an international documentary series focused on the personal stories of the global Black diaspora. Around the same time, Emeke also debuted her first narrative short film ‘Ackee & Saltfish’ which she would later develop into an online web series and ultimately became a BBC Three commissioned comedy feed. Emeke has gone on to continue to cross lines of genre and form; her work since has varied from writing and directing the Tate Modern commissioned art film ‘The Ancestors Came’, to directing mainstream television shows such as HBO’s ‘Insecure’ and Sky’s ‘In The Long Run’.
